An Art Teacher, Artist, avid mountain-biker, and the creator of the Artist Edition Claymore. Since 14 years of age Dougie has been producing and selling his artwork, each piece more extravagant than the last. Venturing by bike to vastly remote locations within the Scottish highlands, Dougie takes inspiration from natures beauty which he then recreates within his moody yet relaxing pieces of art where he captures the awe-inspiring power of nature and the sublime.

I live in Glasgow, in Scotland. Born in 1984. My Dad was an architect and my Mom taught nurses how to care for people. Having a male role model intrigued by art and music has probably been one of my main inspirations leading me to take up art myself.

I’ve been creating and selling art since I was 14, where I sold a piece I had made to my teacher Alan Wortley for £40 at Hill Park School. He always said to me I’d be going paces with my art, he also said I would be a teacher… and here I am.

When art meets bikes

Mountain biking started in a big way when I was 27. Funnily enough I met a bunch of guys through a sort of maternity class with my wife, it was one of these things where all the Dads met up and it basically turned out all the Dads were extreme sport enthusiasts. That being said, we all went out mountain biking and we started spending money on full suspension bikes and we literally got hooked. Ever since then we've been going on riding holidays to the Alps and generally going out riding with each other.

“I started using my bike to get to remote places to do sketches - planned bike rides with a purpose”

Artist Edition Claymore

This is a hand-painted show piece dedicated to display the humble beginnings of where Deviate was conceived, the Cairngorms. The frame itself consists of several 2D sketches depicting various landscapes situated in the Cairngorms, all brought together into one show-stopping piece. The pine and birch tree’s were inspired by the Caledonian forests, the water, inspired by the Green Loch of Aviemore and the stream running down from Ben Macdui, and the long flowing heathers, a nod to the heathers seen all over the Cairngorms.
